Rekeying keeps the lock you already own and changes which key opens it, which makes it the tidy answer to a lost key, a departed roommate or a staff change. Across Thames Centre we rekey single doors, whole houses and small commercial buildings, and cut the new keys on the spot. Nearby, we also work in Thamesford, Belton, Cobble Hill, Evelyn, Friendly Corners, St. Ives, Thorndale, Three Bridges, Wellburn, Brown's Corners, Kintore, Medina and Oliver.

Set up a visit to your home in Thames Centre
Hardware for Thames Centre homes is chosen for the door, not the catalogue. We look at the thickness, the bore, the backset, the swing and the finish already on the house, then bring options that fit without new holes or mismatched brass. The result looks as though it was always there, and it locks the way the door deserves.

Old brass keys wear thin, and a key that has bent for years finally lets go in a cold cylinder. In older housing stock this is a regular call, so the locksmith is ready to extract the piece, check the cylinder and cut a new key from the code.

Locksmith FAQ
How do you confirm I am allowed to have the business opened?
Through identification and a link to the premises. An owner shows photo identification with the lease, business registration or a document addressed to the company at that address. A manager or employee is confirmed by a call to the owner, head office or property manager on a number the locksmith can verify. If everything is inside, the check is finished after entry, before the locksmith leaves.
Will the lock work again once the piece is out?
In most cases yes, and it is tested in front of you with a key that fits. The inspection after extraction is where the honest answer lives: if the pins, springs and cap are sound and the keyway is clean, the cylinder goes back into service with a fresh key. If wear or damage caused the break, that is explained and a rekey or new cylinder is offered as a separate choice.
I am a landlord. Should I rekey between tenants?
Many landlords do, and it removes the question of whether every copy came back. The locksmith rekeys the unit's cylinders so the incoming tenant holds the only working keys, cuts the copies you want, and notes the count for your move-in record. Because provincial tenancy rules expect the tenant to be handed replacement keys whenever a landlord changes a lock, the visit ends with keys for both of you and a clear list of which doors were done.
Will a new lock fit the holes already in my door?
Usually, yes. Most residential doors are prepared to standard sizes, a 54 millimetre cross bore and a backset of 60 or 70 millimetres, and most modern hardware adjusts between those backsets. The locksmith measures before choosing, so the new lock is matched to the door rather than the other way around. Where an older mortise lock or an unusual bore is found, filler plates, extension kits or a carefully jigged new bore bring the door to standard.
Why does the deadbolt scrape or need a shove to throw?
Two causes cover most cases. Either paint has built up on the faceplate, the bolt or the strike so the bolt drags across it, or the door has dropped so the bolt is entering the strike pocket at an angle and rubbing its edge. Occasionally a bent deadbolt lever inside the case adds friction. Cleaning the paint back, adjusting the strike and checking the lever all happen as part of the service.
